How Far in Advance Should You Book a Wedding Photographer in Singapore?
This is one of the most common questions we hear from couples, and the honest answer is much earlier than you think.
Here's the thing most couples don't realise until it's too late. A photographer can only shoot one wedding per day. Once your date is taken, it's taken. There's no waitlist, no squeezing you in, no exceptions. That photographer you've been following on Instagram for months, whose work gives you goosebumps every time you see it — if someone else books them first, they're gone.
Here's a real breakdown of how far in advance Singapore couples should be locking in their photographer, and why timing matters more here than most people expect.
Actual Day Weddings
Book 12 to 18 months in advance. This is not an exaggeration. Popular photographers in Singapore fill their calendars fast, and the best ones are often fully booked 12 to 18 months out for in-demand dates. If your wedding falls on a Saturday or a date recommended by your fengshui master, you are competing with dozens of other couples for the same photographer on the same day. We have personally turned away couples enquiring 8 months in advance because their date was already taken.
Solemnisations
Book 6 to 9 months in advance. Solemnisations tend to have more scheduling flexibility, but popular photographers still fill up quickly, especially for late afternoon weekday ROM ceremonies and weekend slots.
Pre-Wedding Shoots
Book 3 to 6 months in advance. Pre-wedding shoots have more flexibility since they're not tied to a fixed date. That said, if you have a specific outdoor location in mind or want to shoot during golden hour on a weekend, expect competition for those slots too.
Maternity Sessions
Book around week 28 to 32 of your pregnancy. Maternity shoots are ideally done in the third trimester when the bump is beautifully visible but you're still comfortable and mobile. Don't wait until week 36 because the window closes faster than you'd expect.
Why Singapore Dates Are So Competitive
Singapore's wedding season isn't neatly seasonal the way it is in other countries. Demand spikes are driven by auspicious dates, long weekends, and year-end celebrations, and they tend to concentrate on a small handful of dates each year.
When a fengshui master recommends a specific wedding date to a couple, that same date is often being recommended to dozens of other couples at the same time. Every single one of those couples is now hunting for photographers on the same day. Good photographers receive multiple enquiries for those dates within days of the calendar opening.
If your wedding date is fengshui-recommended, a public holiday, or a Saturday, assume that photographers you love already have enquiries for that day. Move fast.
What Happens If You Leave It Too Late
Your options narrow fast, and they narrow in ways that hurt.
The photographer whose work made you stop scrolling? Booked. The one your best friend used and couldn't stop raving about? Booked. You start approaching your third and fourth choices, photographers whose work is fine but doesn't quite move you the way the first ones did.
We've had couples reach out to us genuinely distressed, just a few months before their wedding, having realised their original choice was unavailable. Some of those stories have happy endings. Many don't.
The couples who end up with the photographer they truly wanted are almost always the ones who moved early, often before they'd finalised their venue, before they'd chosen their florist, before almost anything else was confirmed.
A Simple Timeline to Work Backwards From
Start researching and building your shortlist about 18 months out. Have your consultations and sign your deposit around the 14 to 16 month mark. Come back to your photographer 3 to 4 months before the wedding for a proper pre-wedding consultation to walk through the day's schedule. Then about a month before, share your final run sheet and any must-have shots you want covered.
Book your photographer before your venue if you have to. Venues have multiple dates available. Your photographer has one.
One Last Thing
We open our calendar for new dates at the start of each year. Popular dates, especially weekends and fengshui-recommended days, are typically the first to go, sometimes within days of enquiries opening.
